What Makes BOTOX® Cosmetic Different From Its Competitors?

There are several types of botulinum toxin injections, including BOTOX® Cosmetic, Jeuveau®, Dysport®, and XEOMIN®. All four of these cosmetic substances are injected into the face to relax the muscles and visibly reduce wrinkles and fine lines, such as frown lines, forehead creases, crow’s feet, bunny lines, and lip lines.

This type of injection is known as a neuromodulator because it temporarily blocks the nerve signals so the muscles will not be able to contract to form wrinkles.

What Is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is one type of injectable used to treat the signs of aging around the upper face, mouth, and jawline. While this injectable essentially paralyzes the muscle by blocking the transmission of the chemical signals between the nerves and muscles, it is entirely safe and will provide natural-looking subtlety and youthfulness.

The BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment typically takes less than 15 minutes, and you can see results within the first week of receiving treatment.

BOTOX® Cosmetic results usually last up to six months. This is not a permanent solution, so once you stop receiving treatments, the wrinkles and fine lines will begin to reappear.

There are also non-cosmetic medical uses for BOTOX®, including treatment for blepharospasm, muscle spasms, chronic migraines, or overactive bladders.

What Is Jeuveau®?

Jeuveau® is similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic but is typically only injected between the eyes or eyebrows to minimize forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines.

Unlike BOTOX® Cosmetic, it is only for cosmetic use.

Jeuveau® is the newest of the neuromodulators, and therefore, the longevity of results has not been studied as much as BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, or XEOMIN®.

This injectable treatment is FDA approved and a cheaper alternative to BOTOX® Cosmetic.

While there are no severe side effects to Jeuveau®, patients may experience temporary headaches, eyelid drooping, and respiratory infections. These side effects are rare and not expected to be permanent.

What Is Dysport®?

Dysport® is a cosmetic injection that treats moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Typically, Dysport® is injected into five different points to prevent the muscles from contracting. This smooths out wrinkles temporarily.

This treatment takes between 10 and 20 minutes, and you should be able to see results within two to three days. On average, Dysport® is cheaper than BOTOX® Cosmetic and lasts for about five months.

What Is XEOMIN®?

XEOMIN® treats moderate to severe frown lines around the eyebrow as well as blepharospasm and cervical dystonia. There are no additives in XEOMIN®, so it is less likely for antibodies to form against XEOMIN®. This product is also FDA approved.
