Labia Reconstruction
Conveniently located to serve the areas of Newport Beach, CA
Our Labiaplasty procedure can sculpture the elongated or unequal labial minora (small inner lips) according to ones specification. Most women tell us that they do not want the small inner lips to project beyond the large outer lips. Some women with large labia have pain during intercourse because the lips actually get “pulled in.” Large or asymmetrical labia can cause chafing and discomfort during everyday activities or while wearing certain clothing, such as pants. Before and After Photos
Who is Labia Reconstruction (Labiaplasty) recommended for?
Labiaplasty is recommended for anyone seeking to alter the appearance of the labia, feel more comfortable in their own skin, or who has pain due to labial enlargement.
Pre-operation
How can I prepare?
You will need to have a consultation and pre-operative appointment with Dr. Bandy ahead of your procedure in order to verify that you are a candidate for the procedure and that you are healthy enough to undergo the procedure. At your pre-operative appointment a nurse will review important instructions on how to prepare for your procedure. Typically patients are asked to refrain from waxing within the week prior to your procedure and shaving within 3 days of surgery.
Will anesthesia be administered?
Patients are given a prescription for a topical numbing agent to apply an hour before the procedure in order to minimize discomfort experienced during the numbing process. Once in the office, Dr. Bandy will provide local numbing to the area to be treated. Once numb, there is no discomfort experienced during the procedure.
Is painful?
Labiaplasty is a procedure that a patient may be able to have performed while just being numbed, often referred to as a local anesthesia. In order to get the patient numb, a series of injections are made into the area to be operated on. Once injected, the area will be completely numb. A patient may experience pressure, but the patient should not experience any pain.
What if I am sick before?
If a patient is noted to be sick prior to a procedure, it is advised to contact Dr. Bandy’s office immediately to discuss the best way to move forward.
How long before I see results?
Post-procedure swelling will occur immediately following the procedure. Patients can expect to see early results after several weeks, with full results typically seen after 6 weeks or longer. Swelling and sensitivity may take up to a full year to completely resolve.
Post-operation
Is scarring expected after?
Some scarring may be evident, however the appearance of any scarring is usually minimal.
Can I drive home after?
If the labiaplasty is performed under a local anesthetic and no medication to aid in relaxation is provided (such as valium), a patient may drive home following the surgery.
Should I try avoiding touching the area after?
Yes, you should avoid touching the area except to apply antibiotic ointment. You will want to wear loose clothing that does not rub on the area until advised otherwise.
What activity should I refrain from after?
After the procedure, patients are advised to not over exert yourself. Strenuous activity should be avoided for at least 3 weeks. High impact activity may take up to 6 weeks to resume; this includes sexual intercourse. Isometric exercises and walking can be resumed when you are feeling well enough.
Do I need to take any medication after?
A patient is usually prescribed a pain medication. If you are on another regular medication, you will likely continue that medication too. Antibiotic ointment should be applied to the incisions twice daily. Tucks applied to the area for comfort. Cold packs may help with swelling and discomfort and can be applied as needed.
Costs
What is the average cost?
The average cost for labiaplasty surgery is dependent upon the complexity of the case. In order to obtain an accurate price for your surgery we advise meeting with Dr. Bandy for a consultation.
Are there financing options?
The patient has multiple financing options. For example, the patient can pay for the surgery on credit card, and make monthly payments back to their credit card. Additionally, CareCredit is a financing company specific for cosmetic surgery; patients can apply for CareCredit, and there are multiple options for CareCredit. Sometimes, patients opt to make payments directly to the office. This is a prepayment plan where a patient would pay until he or she pays the entire balance for the surgery; then, they would have their surgery.
Recovery
What is the recovery time and the healing process?
Recovery is fairly easy for this procedure. After surgery, you may have some bleeding from the incisions for the first 24 to 48 hours. Wearing a feminine pad will be sufficient to address this issue. A patient may return to showering 48 hours after the procedure. Sutures will be absorbable and will stay buried under the surface of the skin. Patients may feel some stinging sensations, but should not feel any extraordinary amount of pain. Sexual intercourse may resume as normal within 3-6 weeks after the procedure depending upon how a patient is healing.
Is there a post-operative recovery facility that you recommend?
We do have a post operative recovery facility that we refer our patients to in Orange County, CA and Los Angeles, CA. In these situations, they will be picked up by the post operative care facility from our recovery room and brought to the recovery center where they are recovered overnight, and then brought back the next day for their follow up appointment.
