Acne… Thing of the past, or daily reminder?
Your skin is unique, but something we all share is acne. Depending on your situation you might try a multitude of treatments to get the job done! Harsh treatments can make acne worse but easy treatments might not clean thoroughly enough. Never fear, we have recommendations about how to kick your acne to the curb and tame those acne scars.
ACNE? NO THANKS!
First let’s get a handle on you acne. Take a quick look at your skin and see what type of skin you have and where you’re most likely to get acne. There are many different medications you can use for acne spot treatment. We recommend a retinoid cream or serum to help unclog pores.
Retinol helps you achieve more radiant skin by eliminating dead skin cells. It may take a couple of months before you find the right retinoid, but we offer a special Retin-A blend formulated by Dr. Bandy. It contains a low dosage of Retin-A to avoid any harsh side effects from the retinoid. It has moisturizers and preps your skin for the retinoid.
If you’re curious about retinol check out this article by Healthline on retinoid treatments. It goes in depth on keeping your skin healthy and safe during a retinol treatment.
ACNE TREATMENTS
Thinking about treatments to solve your acne issues? Depending on how severe your acne is, or was, dictates what treatment is right for you. Patients with discoloration, unevenness, or acne may choose to get chemical peel. Peels contain a specific type of acid that dissolves the most superficial layer of skin. The strength of the peel depends on the acidity level and type of acid used. Peels are applied to the face, neck, chest, or hands. In acne cases, they are applied to any area that has acne and acne scarring. For the best results, chemical peels should only be done by a licensed trained professional. MICRODERMABRASION
Microdermabrasion, or dermabrasion, is a great option for acne scarring. It is a minimally invasive procedure that gently removes the outermost layer of the skin by exfoliation. This procedure safely removes dull, dry, dead skin cells for a more rejuvenated acne free appearance. With a microdermabrasion treatment there is little to no downtime after the procedure.
MICRO NEEDLING
For more severe acne scarring, micro needling may be useful. Micro needling uses small needles to puncture the surface of the skin. Its purpose is to generate new collagen cells to improve skin tissue giving you a smoother, more toned, and firmed skin. Micro needling is not only good for acne scars, but it also helps minimize pores.
DERMAL FILLERS
Dermal fillers, or facial fillers, are used to treat severe pitting scars. A pitted acne scar is a hollow, indented impression in the skin. During your dermal filler treatment, a gel-like substance will be injected below the skin, filling it adding more volume to compensate for the loss of natural volume. Depending on the area, results can vary anywhere from 6 months to 2 years.
In the end, always consult with a doctor or aesthetician to decide what treatment is best for you. For scheduling or more information, contact our Newport Beach office and see how we can help you today!
